Science Is Fun!

It’s time for Noche de Ciencias!
The SHPE Silicon Valley Professional Chapter (SHPE-SV) is excited to announce it’s first exciting technology and science awareness night of 2016: Noche de Ciencias/Family Science Night!

Background

At Noche De Ciencias, students will experience various hands-on activities about the different fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) with volunteers who are real-life and aspiring engineers and scientists.

While the students enjoy their activities, parents will participate in round-tables to learn about college admissions and programs available to finance higher education costs. They will also learn how and why its important to start preparing early.

The Students

This Spring, our participants will be 10 to 11 year-old students of Empire Gardens Elementary School. This will be an evening after-school event.

Volunteering

We are expecting a large enthusiastic group of approximately 100 students between ages 10-11, as well as parents to participate..  Some of our volunteer opportunities are:

  • Registration/Welcome Participants
  • Set-up
  • STEM Activities
  • Parent Workshops
  • Photo & Video
  • Clean-up
  • Photo/Video

Event Details

When: Thursday, April 28, 2016
Where: Empire Gardens Elementary School.1600 E. Empire Street. San Jose, CA 95112.
Commitment: 4hrs / 4:00PM-8:00PM

Once submitted, our activities and volunteer coordinator will reach out to you for further details and instructions.

We have a conference call scheduled for volunteers as an opportunity to go over the logistics of the event, answer questions about student activities, and to confirm your attendance. Volunteers are requested to attend the conference call below, so please add to your calendar:

Monday, April 11th @ 5:30-6:00pm

The conference phone number will be e-mailed out to volunteers that sign up.
