On Wednesday, June 29th, the Co-Presidents of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Silicon Valley Professional Chapter (SHPE-SV), Rosalinda Zepeda and David Silva, were invited to deliver a speech at the US Department of Labor’s San Jose District Office, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 11246 (EO 11246).

Rosalinda Zepeda and David Silva discussed the mission and vision of the SHPE organization in the Silicon Valley and share the accomplishments and strides the chapter has done in the Hispanic community and with its corporate partners committed to diversity and providing equal employment opportunities.

Rosalinda stated “from the beginning, our own local objective and strategy has been to form strong alliances and partnerships with other non-profit professional and community organizations in the spirit of collaboration and shared visions. This has proved invaluable during the tough economic times and has placed us in a leader position with local corporations due to our ability and flexibility to share the stage with others. Companies have reached out to us, seeking advice on starting or improving their own internal diversity groups.”

David also highlighted in the speech that the chapter’s accomplishments “would not be possible without the passion and commitment of the executive board, our corporate and community partners, and 400 members in the SHPE familia to our mission. As we work towards building the technical and executive leadership pipeline, we not only need all our professional members to do their individual part to strive to become the best experts in their respective fields, but we encourage and work with companies that must have a long term commitment and mission to diversity by providing equal opportunities for all.”
