Noche de Ciencias Testimonial

Below is a testimonial from a Noche de Ciencias volunteer and parent at the October 2009 event at Los Arboles Elementary School and the impact the event had on her grandson.

I wanted to update you on what Noche de Ciencias’ effects on the children that you provide that for. As you recall I had my grandson attend one of your 2009 events. He received a portrait of the astronauts which he shared with his class the next day. His teacher was very impressed with his enthusiasm about becoming an astronaut one day. The fact that he shared this story with the classroom, which has a large percentage of Hispanic students, opens the door for other children to see it as a real possibility.

This year he was asked by a tennis camp instructor what he wanted to be. He again told him he wanted to be an astronaut. This has all been as a result of the Noche de Ciencias experience.

SHPE does wonderful work and I wanted to share the experience from one of your participants of one of your events.” – Ofelia Munoz, Noche de Ciencias volunteer and parent.

We’d like to give a special thank you to Andres Martinez, technology manager at NASA AMES, for conducting his NASA workshop and bringing photos of the astronauts for the kids.

As we always stress at SHPE, it takes the effort by our volunteers and members to make a difference in the community and act as role models for the next generation.
