On Wednesday, September 14th, IBM sponsored a Networking and Career Info Night Event with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
Approximately, 80+ Bay Area professionals and college students from Stanford, UC Berkeley, San Jose State University, and Santa Clara University attended the fantastic evening where the message was to spread the word about IBM’s commitment to diversity and provide information about some of the exciting opportunities available at IBM.

Kristina Vasquez from IBM hosted the event which began with a keynote from IBM Silicon Valley SLE Jai Menon, who is also an IBM Fellow and the CTO and VP of Technical Strategy for STG. His discussion included highlights from IBM’s 100 years in business, key focus areas, and examples of IBM’s dedication to diversity outreach in Silicon Valley.

In addition, Melissa Biggs, IBM Senior Software Engineering Manager for SWG, and Cecilia Carranza Lewis, IBM STSM and z/OS Architecture, Design, and Development from STG, spoke about their career paths within IBM and their passion for mentoring and identifying top talent. Former Extreme Blue manager, Regina Zaliznyak capped off the night with information on IBM’s Extreme Blue internship program. Following the presentations, attendees were given the chance to network with IBM representatives from STG, SWG and Global Business Services.
